THE ROLE OF PRAYER IN THE FREEDOM OF KEVIN AND JULIA GARRATT

By | Uncategorized | 4 Comments

Who better to ask than Kevin and Julia Garratt about the power of prayer. For 775 days people prayed for their release from Chinese imprisonment. Nothing changed. The world watched as Kevin faced isolation, failing health, death threats, and despair. Where was God? Kevin and Julia share their answer. “Prayer is and was our lifeline.”  During those 775 long days we turned to God multiple times a day. He heard our cries and answered every time we called. At times it was a verse, a song, or an overwhelming sense of peace that truly surpassed all understanding. You Prayed, God Answered It wasn’t the answer we were hoping for – prison doors to open and to walk free – but God…

HOW TO TOUCH THE HEART OF GOD

By | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

I was on the bottom bunk, sitting on the fuzzy yellow blanket from Grandma. It was a comfortable place to get a revelation. The phrase – Bless the Lord – came traipsing through my nine year-old consciousness. What my mind could not grasp my spirit responded to and I resolved that if I could, I would bless the heart of God. I met Julianna Christensen at her interview for ministerial credentials. Julianna grew up on the mission field and presently serves at West Edmonton Christian Assembly. She exudes a contagious enthusiasm for prayer and seeking God. So I asked her to share her experience as inspiration for others to “bless the Lord”. How Do The Created Bless The Creator? How…

THIS MEANS WAR

By | Uncategorized | 5 Comments

When’s the last time you heard of a woman giving up precious closet space? Credit the movie War Room for that remarkable choice. Released in August 2015, War Room grossed $73.7 million at the box office and more importantly ignited the prayer life of Christian women across North America. Ironically, panned by movie critics as “a glossy, elongated infomercial for prayer,” War Room delivered just that. There are now dozens of women at North Pointe who credit the movie combined with a companion Bible study for being the catalysts that sparked a revival in their prayer life. Victory Doesn’t Come By Accident Written and directed by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, War Room tells the story of Tony (T.C. Stalling) and…

WHEN A CHILD SUFFERS: A MOTHER’S HEART

By | Uncategorized | 6 Comments

Christa Gagnon is the proud mom of two handsome boys and one precious little girl. When all of her friends in high school were discussing which programs they were going to take in University and what they wanted to be when they “grew up” she can remember thinking that her one and only desire in life was to be a mom. Being a mom was the best career choice she ever made. “I will never forget the first amazing months with my first child. Looking at him and thinking that I had no idea the heart could feel that amount of love for one human being. To my surprise it was the same when Jordan was born and again when…

A SUNDAY IN THE LIFE OF A PASTOR

By | Uncategorized | 4 Comments

A Sunday in the life of a pastor…January 24, 2016. Awake at 5:03am – no alarm – just time to be up. Praying at our kitchen table for what the day could hold. Read the YouVersion’s Bible plan – “Digging Deeper Daily.” A see-you-later kiss with Jocelyn before heading out the door on a surprisingly mild January morning. Pulling into an already filling parking lot ninety-five minutes before service time. Handshakes, smiles and hugs with staff and volunteers. Good-natured ribbing on my return from a two-week holiday. High-fives with pre-schoolers in the foyer. Pictures with a family of Patriot football fans decked out in the colors, hours before the AFC Championship game kick-off. Prayer with our ministry team before taking…

CRUSHED: RON POWELL’S STORY

By | Uncategorized | 8 Comments

“There’s somebody under all that stuff!” a young man shouted. [Special Guest Blog from Dr. Ron Powell, professor at Vanguard College. Ron blogs about youth ministry and parenting at Youth Ministry Unleashed.] My eyes were open but I couldn’t see. I couldn’t breathe either. I had been winded before but this was different. I really couldn’t breathe. All I could do was pray silently, “God I have to live. Anna is pregnant and I have to be there to help her bring up the baby.” Finally I sucked in a tiny breath with searing pain. I could see dimly. One shoe and my glasses were gone. I could hear myself groaning as people were pulling twisted shelves, cans and ceiling…

People of the Cross: The 21 Martyrs

By | Uncategorized | 6 Comments

There they were, for all the world to see – 21 orange clad men  – kneeling on a beach. Most were Egyptians, working in Libya, trying to make some money and a future, just like the rest of us. They were captured by ISIS, tortured and threatened with death. Their crime? They were “people of the cross.” Each one was given the chance to save their life by renouncing Christianity and embracing Islam. They chose to say, “No.” Their last words were, “Lord Jesus Christ.” People of the Cross 24-year-old Luqa Najati, a newlywed working in Libya to build a life for his family in Egypt. Najati didn’t know his wife was pregnant when he left to search for work….

The Komants’ Adventure In Burundi

By | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Elmer and Sherry Komant are our partner missionaries serving in Bujumbura, Burundi. They planted the first English speaking church in the capital, have been in the middle of the attempted military coup and have seen hundreds of people becoming followers of Jesus. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The Komants planted a church just two years ago. Their courage and commitment are inspiring. Please read and pray for them. May 14, 2015 about 05:30 It was a noisy night for many here in Bujumbura, but because the power never went off, our faithful antique fan roared the night away. It wasn’t till about 5:30 this morning that we really heard the huge blasts.  A little deafness CAN…
