IN A CLASS OF HIS OWN: JUSTIN’S STORY

By November 8, 2015 11 Comments

Justin SinclairWhen Justin Sinclair peers through the viewfinder of his Canon 5D Mark III, he sees memories waiting to be captured. From the time he was 13 and borrowed his dad’s Canon T2i to take some pictures on a family holiday, Justin has been enamored with photography.

His father never did get the camera back and he was OK with that because Justin immediately showed an outstanding aptitude for this new-found passion.

THE SINCLAIR GALLERY

I recently spent an afternoon with Justin at his family’s home enjoying homemade cookies and his picture perfect accomplishments. Grant Sinclair is quite content to attribute his son’s talents entirely to his wife Sharon who is an artist in her own right.

The walls of their home are adorned with Justin’s photography, Sharon’s water-colour paintings and their daughter Jessica’s canvas-covered art.

A CLASS OF HIS OWN

Life hasn’t always developed perfectly for Justin.  Health issues made life challenging at times. He was bullied in high school.

He often felt alone in his class.

He never imagined one day that he could be in a class of his own – the future to which his gifting, passion and hard work are leading him.

Justin explained to me that photography has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with how you see them. When he talked about “leading lines” and the “Rule of Three” I saw more than technical explanations of photographic best practices. Justin lights up when he talk about his devotion to precision.

PAYING IT FORWARD

Much of what Justin has learned about photography is self-taught but he’s had a lot of unsolicited but much appreciated help along the way. Local photographers like Dale MacMillan have taken a shine to Justin, providing him with opportunities to learn from and shoot with them.

Justin’s photos have been profiled on the Weather Network’s website where one of his pictures is listed with the most viewed photos.justin sinclair sister

He won the Muttart Conservatory’ s 2013 Photo contest.

His sports action photos have appeared on the cover and inside pages of “Hockey Now” magazine .Screenshot 2015-11-06 17.45.11

Justin, I am so proud of you. I wish I had better words to express how much I love you and how much it impresses me that you are actively pursuing your passion. Don’t ever stop being so determined and focused on doing what you love. You’ve always had a natural eye for photography but I know how hard you’ve worked and studied to become as amazing as you are. Be proud of yourself. You will achieve great things!

Hey Justin! You’ll have to come visit me soon! Perhaps in the spring when the cherry blossoms are blooming. I know you’ll get some good shots. I’ll also take you to Stanley Park, and the seawall. There’s also some amazing graffiti that adorns an alleyway downtown you have to photograph. No matter what image you capture, it will be stunning.
Looking forward to seeing you at Christmas! xox

I teach at Strathcona Christian Academy in Sherwood Park. Our art teacher has a passion for photography as well. Just thought I’d share his website with you. The 2 of you obviously share the same passion. Amazing art!
