FINDING HOME

By July 20, 2016 No Comments

From the timeless classic, Wizard of Oz, to Disney’s latest blockbuster, Finding Dory, the last century of Hollywood productions agree there’s no place like home.

The longing for home is so universal there’s even a special word for it – “homesick.”

Summer camp for elementary-aged campers can be a sweet and sour kind of experience. I asked one of the directors how the kids were doing.

“Fantastic, except for a few cases of near-terminal homesickness.”No-Place-Like-Home

No Place Like Home

Home is the place where you can be you. A kick-your-shoes-off-and-relax kind of place.

Its this longing for home that helped us shape the DNA of North Pointe Community Church. When we opened our doors on Sunday July 16, 2006 we wanted people in search of a church to find a place that feels like home.

A place where anyone can come as they are.

We welcomed Rami and Mirna from Syria on Sunday April 30th. They are making a new home so far away from all that’s familiar to them.

The Doorway of Hope

We searched for a fitting way to describe the ethos of North Pointe and found it in the lyrics of Kevin Max’s song “Sanctuary:”

“And it’s the architecture of peace
and it’s the streets that lead to release
and it’s the hallways and doorways of hope
and it’s a place that we call home.”

No matter how much the world shatters you to pieces, you carry inside a vision of wholeness that you sense is your true home.

It’s part of what the book of Genesis means by saying that we are “made in the image of God.”

No More Tears

God has placed inside each of us a sort of homing device. The coordinates are pre-programmed.

Our destination is a return to the God who made us. To return to a place where there will be no more tears, no more death, no more crying or pain.

A place called, “Home.”

Helping people find home is what we’re good at North Pointe.

How can we help you?
