Fear of rejection, heights, looking stupid, not getting the job, or not being good enough – whatever the fear, it can cruelly twist you out of shape.
Fear may be good for keeping you safe but it will sideline your life from doing things that matter.
I know that to be true because the list above holds some of my fears.
I’ve relied on the following keys to persistently face fear.
16 Keys to Living Fearlessly
Key #1 – A fearless life does not mean you fear less, it means you’ve found a purpose more powerful than your fears that emboldens you to act in spite of your fear.
Key #2 – Living fearlessly is not acting foolishly or behaving recklessly – its about doing the right thing, no matter the cost.
Key #3 – Fear thrives in your imagination. Most things you fear or worry about never come to pass. Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.
Key #4 – Beneath every excuse lives a fear. When you give up your excuses you become fearless.
Key #5 – Action, not thinking, will make you fearless. I fear heights, so I went skydiving. In pre-jump training we practiced stepping out of the plane onto the wing strut, looking up and letting go. I’ve found those three choices – step out, look up and let go – serve me well in all situations.
Key #6 – Fearless living is allowing love to invade every area of your life. Perfect love casts out fear. Where there is fear, there is opportunity for God’s love to set you free.
Key #7 – Live fearlessly by rejecting the counsel of your fears. WW2 General George Patton acknowledged his battlefield fears and the secret to leading in spite of them. “I’ve never been in the sight of battle that I did not have sweat in the palms of my hands but I learned very early in my life never to take counsel of my fears.”
Key #8 – Fearless living soars when you resolve to say, “I can” and “I will.”
Key #9 – List your fears. Confront them one at a time. Move through them.
Key #10 – Peace is what you find on the other side of facing your fears.
Key #11 – The fearless fail their way to success. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb after over 1,000 failed attempts.
Key #12 – Fear is the darkroom where negatives develop. Facts and truth are the light. Turn on the light and expose the darkness.
Key #13 – The fearless know to go back a little to leap further.
Key #14 – The fearless take risks. They ask, “What is the best that could happen?” and “What is the worst that could happen?” When you can take the worst, take the risk.
Key #15 – Take fear out of the equation and see what results you’ll get.
Key #16 – The fearless try again tomorrow. Courage is holding on a day longer.
